Sleep Schedule Part 2

Updated: May 25, 2020

By Oliver Hale '21

Now we have to wake up at 9 a.m.

The newest schedule, while simplified, has left lots of people sleeping less. On the other hand, it boasts consistent start and end times, simplified period-based days and few classes on Wednesdays.

Some like the changes and enjoy the consistent times. “It was good. It made sense,” said Cooper Stovall ’21. “I like how there’s time at the end of the day.” Indeed classes end at 11:45 a.m., instead of varying from day to day. The days are period-based, with periods, in lieu of specific classes, meeting on certain days.

However, other students’ sleep is hurting due to the new schedule. “If my brain was slower, I’d like it,” said a student who wished to remain anonymous and de lined to elaborate further. Waking up before 9 a.m. can be difficult for many, as the old schedule often allowed for sleeping in as late as 12:30 p.m. Hugo Abbot ’21 said, “Sometimes I could just never have to wake up. Eternal rest.”

Another group of students is having trouble wrapping their heads around how they organized the new schedule. “I don’t know how they did it, but somehow I have more classes,” said Harrison Tompkins ’21. The new schedule does allow for as many as four classes per day, as opposed to the usual two or three from before.
