On The Brink of Baldness

Updated: Mar 30, 2020

Will Stevens ’21 and Aubrey Bowles ’21 are drawing some second glances from their peers during their Zoom meetings. Gone are Bowles’ fiery locks as well as Steven’s brown business cut.

The two now find themselves nearly bald after shaving their heads, a longtime tradition for swimmers competing in the National Club swim meet. The two juniors swim for St. Chris, as well as their club team, NOVA.

“This year it was a bummer because the meet ended up getting canceled, so I essentially just shaved my head for no reason,” said Stevens.

Still, they are trying to stay positive about their situations. “It’s not an ideal hairstyle,” said

Bowles, “but thinking on the bright side, my hair dries really quickly out of the shower now.”

As Bowles and Stevens begin the slow process of growing back their hair, they look forward to next year’s swim season and are glad that they won’t have to shave their heads again. “It’s the tradition for us to only shave our heads one year,” said Stevens, “a

nd even though the meet didn’t happen this year, I am still glad that we got it over with.”
